Your 'own' Slum Shop in the slums of Dhaka
Friday 4th September 1We opened the second 1We Slum Shop in Dhaka. Special guest was Bangladesh national soccer coach Edson Dido Silva from Brazil, who opened the shop officially. With the 1We Slum Shops underprivileged people get the chance to become the owner of a small grocery in the slums. Starting budget With a starting budget the new owner Shamor Marak (20), a poor boy from Kamalpur, get the chance to manage his own small grocery. From this he will be able to maintain his whole family. 1We - One World Experience would like to give more talented youngsters in the slums this opportunity. A starting budget of € 1,950 is enough to start a slum shop and to make a real difference to young entrepreneurs. The amount of money includes also training and guidance for the owners. Of course every other donation is welcome! For the local people to receive ownership of the complete venture 50% of the investment has to be repaid within two years. 1We will re-invest the repayments towards the start up of more mini enterprises with the same concept. Targets • Stimulating entrepreneurship amongst the most challenged locals, so that the entire family can be supported in one transaction. • By creating job opportunities (resulting in a sustainable and steady income) education for the family could be guaranteed. • Raising awareness amongst consumers and entrepreneurs in developed countries and stimulating them to support their ‘own’ shop in the slums. The project is coordinated by the Belgian supervisor Willem Gees, who has lived in Bangladesh for many years and has a lot of experience in microcredits.
1We - One World Experience is officially recognised as a charity foundation.
